As you most probably know, my husband is a teacher. The school district he works for has a pretty big levy up for vote here in a few weeks. Should it fail, huge cuts will come - putting the entire school district functioning at state minimum requirements (when for years it's been one of the top 5, or so, districts in the state).
So, to volunteer as we could, R and I delivered "vote for the levy" signs to those people who signed up to get them. We had a little over 30 signs to place in front yards.
Two houses that wanted signs were on a rather busy road, and they were just a few houses down from each other. The home in-between these two houses had a yard full of political signs. I really paid no attention to them, didn't even read one of them. So, while planting the second sign in a yard, the man who lives in the yard-o-signs house came out, looking very suspiciously at my and R, he looked kinda mad, I was nervous about him.
I rolled down my window and explained that we were delivering signs for the school levy - that his neighbors had asked for them to be put in their yards. He just stared.
So, I asked him if he wanted one.
His response, "Only if it's Republican."
"Sir, it's for the school."
"Well, I'll take one if it's Republican."
I said, "It's just for the SCHOOL LEVY, it's not for/from either side."
His reply (looking very confused) "Oh, go ahead, I'll put one up."
---------
This is just MY opinion, BUT I really have a problem with "straight ticket voting." Maybe it's just because I consistently have views that go one direction with one candidate, and then another view that rides the other candidate. But I thought, this guy has no idea who's signs are in his yard. No idea who they are, what they've done, what they want to do, what they believe in, what they support....nothing. I just find that, in a way, ingorant. (but it did give my husband and I a good laugh that day!)
in the airport. boo.

all i can say is "wow".
that is funny, and yet sad.
and i second trophy life: wow.
I stray from my party only on the issues of gun control and gay rights. The gun control issue is not personally significant enough for me to abandon all of my other views and vote Democrat. As for the gay rights thing, both tickets have identical platforms: they don't support gay marriage, but do support civil unions left up to the states. So, I guess you could say I'm a straight ticket voter, but I have addressed each and every one of the issues individually to reach that conclusion.
You should put a sign in that guy's yard that says:
VOTE FOR I'm an ignorant dickhead
REPUBLICAN
and see if he even notices.
I love that. It's almost like a scene out of The Office or something. Republican School levy.
